Clare is a copywriter, fountain of beauty knowledge, gossip addict and fashion critic wannabe. She makes it her mission to squeeze in as many holidays as she can possibly get away with and loves the feeling of getting a bargain, watching a DVD on a rainy Sunday afternoon and drinking ice-cold Diet Coke.

One of her earliest memories was crying for an entire afternoon when her Dad sold his white Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Clare joined SixandCo in June 2007 and currently writes for Alfa Romeo, Olay and most recently, adidas.

The Trendwatch does SxSW, Zuckerberg turns us wild

coverage.jpg

Damon and I arrived in Austin, Texas, last Thursday to do our best to represent the Trendwatch Daily team and the Fullsix Group in THE Interactive Festival of the Year, SxSW (pronounced South by South West). It’s our first time here and we’re thrilled by the high quality of the speakers, from Jason Fried (Founder of 37 Signal) to Michael Lopp (Senior Engineering Manager at Apple). Topics are definitively super inspiring (Top 10 Lessons learned in e-commerce by Zappo’s CEO, Social Marketing Metrics Strategies…).

mark.jpg

The main event was expected to be the Mark Zuckerberg’s Keynote, CEO of Facebook, and we haven’t been disappointed. The auditorium was packed with a super-excited crowd, ready to listen to the 23-year-old billionaire speak about the social network site and the challenges encountered in the recent past (think NewsFeed, Beacon, Privacy, Openness…). But it didn’t go that well, because of a very weird dynamic between him and the over-friendly and egocentric interviewer, author and journalist Sarah Lacy. Questions asked were boring, and she was mainly interested about talking about herself and her upcoming book than trying to challenge Zuckerberg.

Members of the audience were quick to express their frustration, both online (Twitter and Meebo dedicated channel for SxSW) and in the room, someone shouting her “Ask interesting questions”, while even the young CEO was being annoyed by her self-oriented endless questions, answering with a mere : “OK”, “Sure” and finishing her with a “You have to ask questions”, since she kept telling uncomfortable stories about their first encounters. Which generated a huge cheer from the crowd, booing the famous journalist, forcing her to give up on the interview and, Digg-style, pass the microphone to the crowd for a (disappointingly) super short Q&A session where topics like data portability, application saturation and privacy finally got a chance to be discussed.

Tomorrow, on the menu: Going social now, Judo moves for defending your reputation online, and more taco/margaritas overdose. We’ll certainly come back to our respective offices with great topics to share with you here but also in the next issue of the Trendwatch Keynote. So stay tuned by subscribe to our RSS feed or our daily digest email for your inbox.

By the way, if you’re like my friend Sylvie who was waiting for the French version of Facebook, Sarah Lacy broke the secrecy and announced it in front of a shocked Zuckerberg that it would be released on Sunday night. Still not spotted on the site though.

If you’re in Austin and want to meet at one of the 20+ party tomorrow, leave a comment or drop us a line!

Jonathan was born and raised in upstate New York which explains his knowledge on spring water and lawn care. When he was in university he left upstate and went to the island of Japan where he somehow learned the native language while studying design and adapting to the small environment. If you ever spoke with him he would eventually say “In Japan…” and share some random fact. Jon is a designer at Fullsix NY.

carmen.jpg

Carmen comes from one of the most amazing countries on Earth, the land of everything great that ends in ‘A’ (Sangria, Movida, Paella, Zara, La Macarena…) where she studied Advertising & Marketing and got her Masters in Communication Management. She has lived and breathed digital ever since she started working at Yahoo and MRM in Madrid, then Ogilvy One in London.

In the past 2 years she has been a member of the Fullsix Group, first for P&G and recently as the Digital Marketing and Trends coordinator, making sure that both internal staff and clients are on track of the fast changing digital sphere.

Carmen is a frustrated artist, she has a passion for all things beautifully artistic but realizes there is a slight flaw in that she can’t draw, dance, sing…and that’s why she decided to pursue a life in a creative world of a different type.

Outside New Oxford Street, Carmen loves good food, BMW cars, traveling around the world, the iPhone (even though she still doesn’t have one!!!), shopping shopping shopping and most importantly spending time with her friends and family.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Matt Monihan spent most of his days on the playground. He enjoys chilling out, maxin, relaxing all cool, and occasionally shooting some b-ball. Outside of school he met a couple of guys and helped start take247.com and started making trouble on the internets. He wanted to learn more (and his mom got scared) and said “I’m moving to New York to start an internship with Fullsix“.

Each morning he whistles for a cab and pulls up to the office about quarter to ten. He pays his fare and yells to the cabbie “Yo home! Smell ya later.” Looks up at the building on West 19th street. He’s finally there and settles in his chair as an intern in New York.

Desmond is a multimedia designer with his finger on both online design and the technical development pulse. After graduating Huddersfield University with a degree in multimedia and virtual reality design, he has gone on to work with many well know brands in a variety of diverse sectors. Having a interest in both interactive creativity and technology he has built a reputation of being a trouble shooter, and has worked as a senior multimedia designer in Fullsix London for three years. When not staring at his two 22inch monitors, he enjoys the lights, sounds and alcohol that London has to offer. And even though many of his Fullsix colleges claim to be the best at foosball he is the true king of the table!

Manuel is passionate about the Web, ever since he bought his first Internet Access when he received his first salary back in 1995. He was influenced by his older brother, a pioneer Portuguese user in Telnet and BBS’. He’s been working at DMC Portugal for almost 2 years now, but he’s been planning Internet advertising campaigns since 1999. When he’s not online, Manuel enjoys riding MTB on the countryside, bodyboarding, taking pictures of street/urban art for his geo-tagged graffiti Flickr project and making wood sculptures, using objects he finds outdoors as ornaments.

Zoe is a copywriter and concept designer. She earned a degree in philosophy but her passion for computers made her win a scholarship for a geek master in Media Science and Technology. She has worked in webvertising since 1999, when she also became involved in media activism and graphic agitation. More in general, interaction design, web culture, social memes, digital commons, guerrilla marketing, political iconology, graphic bits and electro beats are among her favorite subjects of interest. dan.jpg

Dan is probably best known for knowing a lot about nothing and a little about everything. He enjoys learning and researching topics completely unrelated to his profession simply for his own amusement. His true interests are nature, history, politics, typography, advertising and its trends, and trends unrelated to advertising (but they always mostly are). Dan has been an Art Director at Fullsix in New York since February of 2007 and has a background in advertising design for both print and web.
