# Internet is huge in China (in case you were doubting)

There are more people online in China than in the USA. 253 million vs. 223 in June. And, in the country that will host the Olympics in few days, Internet usage is up 56% compared to last year. Wow. And the share of the Chinese public using the Internet is still just 19.1 percent, leaving more room for rapid growth.

If I moved to NY for Fullsix to make it in the digital marketing and retire before I’m 40, that really wasn’t a smart decision… Right, Stéphan?

Looking at what’s gonna happen tomorrow on a daily (yeah, right!) basis is exhausting. Sometimes it is good to look back and those sites that, few years ago, set new standards in terms of design, interface, interaction, technology…

A recent email thread brought back the memory of dontclick.it, a site that studies (or shall I say studied?) how users react when they are forced to lose their habit of clicking: no mouse button is required, just roll-overs. In case you’re too young to have heard about it (it was in 2005…), don’t miss it. And if you know it already, I swear it’s worth re-visiting, it hasn’t aged a bit, unlike, hum, hum

What about you? Tell us in the comments what your favorite grandpas of the internet age are!

Gawker reports that that ugly creature washed ashore in Montauk, NY. And a tipster mentioned “a government animal testing facility very close by in Long Island”. Yeah, sure.

Buzzfeed wants to believe (ah ah) that it’s some kind of intricate promo for the new X-Files movie.

Once again, blogs/tumblr/twitter were first to report the earthquake in LA, beating the mainstream media.

#: Is your brand ready to stream itself?

UPDATE: On August 15, 2008 The Trendwatch received a cease and desist letter from the lawyers of a company named Fricken, which states that Fricken owns a trademark for the term ‘brandstream’ so that neither The Trendwatch nor Fullsix are allowed to use that term. I’ve edited the post accordingly.

According to a Universal McCann report, content consumed outside of websites has increased by 153% in the last 9 months. Furthermore, 53% of online users are consuming content outside of a publisher’s site (using widgets, RSS readers, social networks and mobile devices). A pretty good example is Ford’s Digital Snippets: YouTube videos, images from Flickr, extensive usage of tags, RSS…

Just by looking at what’s happening in our (new gorgeous) Fullsix office in New York, we’re helping four of our biggest clients to dive into this. And most of the other ones are convinced that they should develop their own content outside of their brand site. So based on this very unscientific poll, I would say that YES, brands are ready!

Just plain simple and beautiful. Visible on the Layer Tennis site.

Recommended by Edgard, who will be joining the Trendwatch team very soon. More details and his bio to come, stay tuned!

Do you sometimes promise yourself that one day, soon, you will stop working in marketing/advertising?

Do the events and characters depicted in this hilarious video look familiar? Yeah, me too.

#: Online shoppers like to know what other online shoppers think

No breaking news here. What’s interesting is to see that they won’t take their peers’ reviews into account if there are only few. Less than 4 opinions and 68% of your consumers probably won’t buy your product. So if you’re managing an ecommerce website, make sure that you make the commenting/reviewing process as smooth as possible. I can’t wait to share with you the way we’re currently developing it for the new Kiehl’s site, that we’re gonna launch this fall. More info very soon.

Well, not exactly now, but sometimes this fall. I know one of my client who’s gonna freak out.

PS: Illustration above not super accurate since it’s just a Photoshopped screenshot of a Facebook Fan page Fullsix US realized for L’Oréal Professionnel, that I roughly pasted into an iPhone. Just an excuse for a bit of self-promotion: we’re pretty good at developing Facebook applications so if you need one or if you want to develop an advanced Fan page but don’t really know how to, drop us a line!

A fake ad for… Aww well, I’m not gonna ruin your fun. Your turn to do the work and tell me!
