Well, at least that’s what they claim on the official site promoting the latest feature-length from amazing director Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep, Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind, Human Nature…). Jack Black’s character failed plot to sabotage his workplace results in a super-powerful magnetic field surrounding him, which erases all the tapes in his best friend video store (played by Mos Def). To avoid bankruptcy, the pair decides to re-shoot the most rented movies, using low-tech tools and home-made costumes and settings (think Robocop, Ghostbusters, Rush Hour…)
Pretending that the same thing happened to the Internet, they’re offering the visitors of the site a home-made version of the most famous sites and blogs, made with scissors, cardboard, tape, paper… Rediscover Google, Flickr, MyFace, as if they had been designed by your nephew in kindergarden!
And of course the mandatory UGC section where you can submit your home-made versions of your favorite sites. A pretty effective transposition of Gondry’s world on the web, and addictive (while über-geek) movie site.
