Google November 1998
Personally, I always thought it would be such a terrible waste not to be able to have a “data warehouse” where you could store a copy of every single website that ever existed on the web - our digital collective consciousness and intelligence. Even really lame websites like this one should not be lost. And I might overdo it if I say it would be like having the Alexandria Library fire happening over and over again… (well… kind of…) but that’s how I feel about erasing information.
But fear not! Lucky for us information junkies we have The Wayback Machine at Archive.org, a digital time machine that keeps a record of our website’s evolution throughout the years, like this article’s featured image, where we can see, for instance, that Google somehow lost an exclamation mark along the way…
Happy trips down memory lane!
